Reach Truck Hire
In London.

Reach truck hire for London's racked warehouses. Match the truck to your aisle, pallet and highest beam before you commit to equipment.

Start With Your Racking Layout

Reach truck hire suits many warehouses that need to put pallets into racking without the working space required by a larger counterbalance truck. The reach mechanism allows the load to move forward for placement and retract towards the chassis for travel. The exact truck still needs to be checked against your pallet and aisle arrangement.

Measure the clear operating aisle between the closest obstructions, including rack protectors and any pallet overhang. Supply the pallet entry direction and load dimensions rather than only the nominal pallet type. The manufacturer's turning and stacking data must be checked for the actual truck and load combination.

Lift Height Is Only Part Of The Specification

Record the highest beam level, the clearance needed to place a pallet and any overhead restrictions. The truck must have sufficient residual capacity at the required height and load centre. A nominal capacity shown in a listing is not enough to decide whether a loaded pallet can safely reach your top storage position.

Collapsed mast height and overhead guard clearance matter where the truck passes through doorways or under intermediate structures. Free-lift requirements can also affect the choice of mast. Share the rack layout and photographs of tight transitions so these constraints are considered together rather than discovered after delivery.

Floor Condition, Batteries And Shifts

Standard warehouse reach trucks generally need suitable hard, level floors. Expansion joints, dock levellers, thresholds and ramps can create restrictions, so describe the full travel route. Some models are designed for particular outdoor applications, but an ordinary indoor reach truck should not be assumed suitable for yard work.

The battery package must cover the intended shift pattern and charging opportunities. Confirm the available supply and whether the charger is included and compatible with it. Cold-store operation needs a model specified for that environment, including appropriate battery performance and protection, rather than a general-purpose truck selected only by lift height.

Training And Workplace Duties

PUWER applies to reach trucks used at work, including their suitability and safe use. Operators need training appropriate to the truck type, job and workplace. Experience on a counterbalance machine does not automatically establish competence on a reach truck with different controls, steering and load-handling behaviour.

LOLER duties apply to the lifting operation and examination arrangements. Keep pedestrian routes separate from the truck's operating space and plan how loads will be handled at height. HSE's lift-truck guidance should inform the site's working arrangements, with responsibilities made clear before a temporary hire starts.

From Enquiry To Warehouse Handover

Begin with your rack heights, load details, aisle measurements, postcode and hire dates. The proposed model's technical data is then compared with your application and any special environmental requirements. Where information is incomplete, a site assessment can resolve the gaps before a truck is selected.

Review the hire scope, delivery method and charger arrangements before accepting. At handover, confirm the model and mast match the agreed specification and record the condition and documents received. Set up authorised use, charging and defect reporting before introducing the machine into the warehouse's normal work.

What Changes Reach Truck Hire Cost

Reach truck hire quotations depend on mast height, usable capacity, battery configuration, hire length and operating hours. Cold-store specifications or specialist features can affect availability and cost. Delivery access and the need for any particular transport arrangement also need to be understood.

Compare the same scope across quotations, including charger supply, planned maintenance, examination arrangements and any chargeable exclusions. A lower rental figure is not helpful if the truck cannot work in the aisle or maintain capacity at the top beam. Give the application details first so cost follows a workable specification.

Reach Truck Hire Questions

Can A Reach Truck Be Used Outdoors?

A reach truck can be used outdoors only where the particular model is suitable for the surface and conditions. Standard indoor machines should not be assumed suitable for uneven yards, gradients or wet ground. Describe any outside section of the route so the truck's ground clearance, wheels and manufacturer guidance can be checked.

How Do I Measure The Aisle For Reach Truck Hire?

For reach truck hire, measure the clear distance available for turning and stacking, including rack protection, pallet overhang and other fixed obstructions. Supply the load length, width and pallet entry direction as well. The required working aisle comes from the specific model's technical data and your load, rather than a universal minimum.

Do Counterbalance Operators Need Reach Truck Training?

Counterbalance operators need appropriate reach truck training before operating equipment with different characteristics. The employer should check existing competence, arrange conversion or further training where needed and complete job-specific familiarisation. HSE describes basic, specific job and familiarisation training as separate elements, followed by authorisation for the equipment the person will actually use.
