Hire The Truck For The Job

Forklift hire starts with the load and the working environment. A counterbalance truck may suit a loading bay or open warehouse floor, while a reach truck can be the better option for pallet racking where turning space is restricted. We use your operational details to help define the right hire enquiry before a specification and availability are confirmed.

Send the heaviest load weight, pallet dimensions and highest storage position. A truck's headline capacity is not the same as its capacity at every height or load centre, particularly when an attachment is fitted. Include awkward loads, long pallets and anything that moves the centre of gravity forward of the forks.

Short-Term And Longer Forklift Rental

A short hire can cover a stock intake, equipment installation, seasonal peak or the period while your regular truck is being repaired. A longer rental can suit uncertain demand or an expanding contract where purchasing equipment would commit capital too early. Tell us whether your end date is fixed or likely to change.

Compare the full scope before choosing a hire period. Delivery, collection, permitted operating hours, maintenance, damage arrangements and the process for extending the agreement should all be clear. For a predictable ongoing requirement, also consider our forklift leasing page and ask for equivalent specifications so the comparison is meaningful.

Power, Access And Site Suitability

Electric forklifts can be useful in enclosed commercial buildings, but the battery and charger must match the available electrical supply and working pattern. Confirm the charging location, ventilation needs and time available between shifts. Any combustion-powered option needs a suitable assessment of emissions and ventilation for the proposed working area.

Measure the lowest doorway and note floor condition, ramps, dock equipment and turning restrictions. A truck suitable for smooth concrete is not automatically suitable for broken yard surfaces. Delivery access also matters, so describe gate widths, unloading space, vehicle restrictions and whether a banksman or booked arrival slot is required.

Hire Responsibilities And Safe Use

The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998, known as PUWER, apply to hired equipment used at work. The truck must suit the task and be used by appropriately trained people. Read the manufacturer's instructions, agree the maintenance arrangements and check the examination documentation before putting the machine into use.

Lifting operations are also covered by the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998, known as LOLER. Agree in writing who organises any examination that falls due during the hire. A delivery handover does not replace operator training, site familiarisation or your own safe working arrangements.

How A Hire Enquiry Progresses

First, send the load details, postcode, dates and shift pattern. Next, the proposed truck is checked against your clearances, application and power arrangements, with a site review where needed. You then review the hire scope, availability and transport arrangements before deciding whether to proceed.

At handover, check the truck identity, visible condition, instructions, examination paperwork and agreed accessories. Record existing damage and clarify the procedure for reporting a fault. Keep daily checks and site supervision in place throughout the hire, and agree how collection and the end-of-hire condition assessment will work.

What Affects Forklift Hire Cost

Forklift hire cost depends on capacity, mast configuration, power type, attachments, hire length and anticipated operating hours. Transport and access requirements can also change the total. A specialist specification or a restricted delivery window may need different arrangements from a standard warehouse truck.

Ask whether the quotation includes the charger, planned servicing and examination arrangements, and how tyres, accidental damage and excess use are treated. There is no useful single price without the application details. A clear written scope is the best way to compare quotations and avoid choosing a truck that cannot carry out the intended work.

Forklift Hire Questions

What Do I Need To Arrange Forklift Hire?

To arrange forklift hire, provide your site postcode, load weight and dimensions, lift height and intended dates. Include aisle widths, doorway clearance, floor conditions and shift hours where available. These details allow the proposed truck and delivery method to be checked before you accept a quotation or commit to a hire period.

Does Forklift Hire Include A Driver?

Forklift hire does not automatically include a driver, so state clearly if you need an operated service. Your employer must confirm that anyone using the truck has suitable training and authorisation for the equipment and site. An existing training certificate alone does not replace familiarisation with a different machine or working environment.

Can I Extend A Forklift Rental?

A forklift rental extension depends on the truck's availability and the terms agreed with the supplier. Raise a likely extension before the collection date rather than assuming the machine can remain on site. Confirm the revised period, operating-hour allowance and whether any servicing or thorough examination becomes due during the additional time.
