Buyer Questions
A Clearer View
Before You Commit.
Practical answers for businesses arranging forklift hire, comparing equipment or planning support for a working truck.
What Do I Need To Arrange Forklift Hire?
To arrange forklift hire, provide your site postcode, load weight and dimensions, lift height and intended dates. Include aisle widths, doorway clearance, floor conditions and shift hours where available. These details allow the proposed truck and delivery method to be checked before you accept a quotation or commit to a hire period.
Does Forklift Hire Include A Driver?
Forklift hire does not automatically include a driver, so state clearly if you need an operated service. Your employer must confirm that anyone using the truck has suitable training and authorisation for the equipment and site. An existing training certificate alone does not replace familiarisation with a different machine or working environment.
Can I Extend A Forklift Rental?
A forklift rental extension depends on the truck's availability and the terms agreed with the supplier. Raise a likely extension before the collection date rather than assuming the machine can remain on site. Confirm the revised period, operating-hour allowance and whether any servicing or thorough examination becomes due during the additional time.
Can A Reach Truck Be Used Outdoors?
A reach truck can be used outdoors only where the particular model is suitable for the surface and conditions. Standard indoor machines should not be assumed suitable for uneven yards, gradients or wet ground. Describe any outside section of the route so the truck's ground clearance, wheels and manufacturer guidance can be checked.
How Do I Measure The Aisle For Reach Truck Hire?
For reach truck hire, measure the clear distance available for turning and stacking, including rack protection, pallet overhang and other fixed obstructions. Supply the load length, width and pallet entry direction as well. The required working aisle comes from the specific model's technical data and your load, rather than a universal minimum.
How Often Should A Forklift Be Serviced?
A forklift should be serviced at the intervals specified by its manufacturer, adjusted where necessary for operating hours and conditions. There is no single service frequency that suits every fleet. Supply the model, hour reading, shift pattern and service history so a suitable maintenance schedule can be proposed and recorded for your site.
Does Forklift Servicing Include A LOLER Examination?
Forklift servicing does not automatically include a LOLER thorough examination. Maintenance and statutory examination have different purposes, and HSE says a scheduled service is not a thorough examination. If both are required, confirm their scope, competent personnel and separate documentation before booking rather than treating a service invoice as evidence of examination.
What Information Helps With Forklift Repair?
Forklift repair enquiries are easier to assess with the make, model, serial number, power type and a description of the fault. Include displayed codes and whether the problem occurs during travel, lifting or charging. Send photographs only where safe, and explain whether the truck is parked securely or has a raised load.
Is Forklift Leasing The Same As Long-Term Hire?
Forklift leasing is not always the same as long-term hire. Equipment providers use different agreement types, and ownership, maintenance duties and end-of-term options can vary. Ask for the precise contract structure in writing and compare the complete terms before treating two proposals with similar monthly payments as equivalent offers.
Does A Forklift Lease Include Maintenance?
A forklift lease includes maintenance only where the agreement says it does. Check the scope for routine servicing, repairs, batteries, tyres and statutory examinations, since these may be separate. Confirm how faults are reported and authorised, and whether any replacement equipment arrangement is stated rather than assuming downtime support is automatic.
What Should I Check Before Buying A Used Forklift?
Before buying a used forklift, check that its capacity, mast, power type and dimensions match your site. Request service history, examination records, machine identity and a competent condition assessment. Include the battery, charger and attachments in the review, and agree the exact condition and documents to be provided at handover.
What Happens If An Examination Finds A Dangerous Defect?
A dangerous defect found during examination requires action to prevent unsafe use. Where danger is immediate, keep the equipment out of service until the defect is remedied and obtain advice on any further examination needed. The examiner records the finding and has duties to notify the relevant enforcing authority about reportable dangerous defects.
